Itinerary: 4 Days Desert Tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga
Day 1: Ouarzazate to The Valley of roses and The Gorges of Todra end in Merzouga Desert.
Our four-day journey from Ouarzazate to Merzouga Desert will begin. Following breakfast, we travel the “Mille Kasbahs” road to the majestic Todra Gorges, a haven for hikers. We stroll along the river Todra, surrounded by large rocks, free lunch. After that, we proceed to the town of Erfoud to view extremely old fossil quarries. Then we reach the enormous sand dunes of Merzouga’s Erg Chebbi. We will ascend the dromedaries in the afternoon and head into the desert, where we will stay the night in a Berber tent. We will witness a sunset and the sunrise over a massive dune as we proceed along the path. After you finish your dinner, the Berbers will entertain you with some music.
Day 2: Day Tour to Explore Merzouga Desert
Following our camel ride back to Merzouga and breakfast at the camp, we will start our day of exploring the Merzouga desert by taking a 4WD vehicle through the desert. Before going to the village of Sudanese people with dark skin, we will have the chance to visit a nomadic family close to the Algerian and Moroccan borders, where we will hear Gnaoua music and learn about their way of life. We’re going to the hotel for the night.
Day 3: from Merzouga Desert to Boumalne Dades via Rissani Souk, Alnif, Tinghir.
Day three of our 4-day desert tour from Ouarzazate to Merzouga. Our next destination is Rissani, where we will take a walk through the charming little souk and see a fossil museum. We will pass through Alnif. Then we will pass through Tinghir, where you can sample some regional cuisine. We will have lunch there.
We will continue traveling to Boumalne Dades, stopping along the way to see the monkey finger mountains and the curves of Tisdrine before reaching the hotel. Night at the hotel/ Riad.
Day 4: Boumalne Dades to Marrakech via Tizi N'tichka
That day we will go from Dadès to Marrakech. First we will visit the Valley of Roses, known for its rose products. Then, in the direction of Ouarzazate, we will go through Skoura. We will visit one of the film studios, because Ouarzazate is known for its Hollywood-style films: here actors also rent props to shoot in Ait Benhaddou. The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that serves as both a Tuareg trading center and a Berber fortification, will be our next stop. It is also known for stills from the films Lawrence of Arabia and The Gladiator.
In the afternoon, we will cross the Tichka pass, located at the top of the Atlas mountain range. Next, we will stop at the highest point in Morocco (2260 meters) and visit an argan oil cooperative. Finally, we will transport you to Marrakech, concluding our four-day journey from Ouarzazate to the desert of Merzouga.
