Itinerary: 3 Days Tour from Marrakech To Merzouga Desert
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley.
The route winds past Berber towns, where you can admire the remarkable earthen buildings that characterize the area. Next, the route winds uphill through lush farmland with views of the High Atlas Mountains that are simply stunning.
We then travel along the ancient caravan route to Ouarzazate to visit the Telouet Kasbah. El Glaoui, the sultan known as “the vulture,” was a formidable tribal leader who built this extraordinary kasbah. But he never lived there, the structure was never finished, and despite some attempts at restoration, it is currently collapsing. However, you can still admire the incredible splendor of its reception rooms and a number of other exquisite architectural and ornamental details.
After Telouet, you can choose to go off road through the Ounila Valley, characterized by a beautiful river, lush valleys, and multicolored hills, or continue on the main road to Ait Ben Haddou. The magnificent kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, or in this case Ksar (fortified village), is the next stop on our journey. Currently recognized as a World Heritage Site, it is one of the best and most intact examples of land architecture in Morocco and has served as the backdrop for numerous epic films, including Lawrence of Arabia and Alexander.
After passing through the Valley of Roses and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, we will arrive in Boumaln Dades, where we will spend the night.
Day 2 : Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Camel Trekking - Erfoud - Merzouga.
We will reach Merzouga early in the morning, crossing the gorge of Morocco’s highest oasis valley, the Todra Gorge. Your guide and camels will be waiting to transport you across the high sand dunes of the Moroccan Sahara once you reach the small town of Merzouga on the edge of the desert.
After a two-hour ride on Aria camelback, you will ride practically until sunset before reaching your camp, furnished with traditional Berber tents. You will be served mint tea while your camels and luggage are cared for. You will spend the night in a Berber camp in the desert under the starry sky and music.
Day 3: Merzouga - Rissani - Tazarine - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
You will have breakfast with a Berber family and then return to Merzouga village on a leisurely camel ride. This time of day, when the light is continually shifting as the morning goes on, is especially lovely for the Erg Chebbi dunes. You return to Merzouga late in the morning, having had a shower at the guesthouse to freshen up before departing for Ouarzazat and Marrakech. We will return by the Tizi n’Tichka Pass and the High Atlas, and you will return to Marrakech in the evening.
